Michelle O’Donnell

As associate director of admissions at the Mount, Michelle manages all admissions communications strategies including email marketing, publications, social media, and website efforts. Additionally, Michelle works closely with the Mount’s university communications team on broader marketing efforts. Her responsibilities also include co-planning the Mount’s annual open houses and supervising the admissions work-study students. An active participant in organizations such as the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling (PACAC), and the Maryland College Personnel Association (MCPA), Michelle has presented numerous times at a variety of professional conferences. She is also a regular contributor to PACAC’s quarterly newsletter, The Pacer.

Scott Van Loo

Dr. Scott D. Van Loo is Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing at Ashland University. Ashland University has 2,300 traditional undergraduate students and 3,700 adult and graduate students. In his role of chief enrollment officer at the institution, he oversees all student recruitment and marketing efforts at the university. He serves on several committees at the university including the University Strategic Planning Committee and the Board of Trustees Enrollment Management Committee (co-chair). Most recently, he led the university through a successful undergraduate tuition reset resulting in increased enrollments and a repositioned tuition pricing model. Prior to joining Ashland University, Dr. Van Loo was Vice President for Enrollment Management at Southern Seminary and Director of Admissions at Cedarville University. He has provided leadership to enrollment units focused on recruiting both traditional and nontraditional students. During his career, he has seen positive enrollment growth occur at each institution leading to the increased enrollment of both traditional and nontraditional students.

Susan Salvador

Dr. Salvador served as a contributing author to Learning Reconsidered: A Campus-wide Focus on the Student Experience publication, as well as a member of the National Writing Team to produce the inventory statements for the Principles of Good Practice for Student Affairs, sponsored by ACPA and NASPA. She has also written articles on the impact and philosophical change of residence halls on two-year colleges. Dr. Salvador served as president of ACPA from 2010-2011 and currently serves on ACPA’s Senior Student Affairs Advisory Board and External Relations Advisory Board. She is a member of Leadership Lehigh Valley and Valley Youth House board of directors. She received Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s Distinguished Administrator Award, the Certificate of Merit from the New York State Assembly for significant contributions to the student personnel profession, the Outstanding Contribution to the Profession Award from the College Student Personnel Association in New York, the ACPA Diamond Honoree Award, the Mildred Bulpitt Woman of the Year Award from the American Association for Women in Community Colleges, and was inducted into the MCC Sports Hall of Fame. Dr. Stephen Storck

Steve has served as the vice president for finance and administration at Ashland University since August 2013. Prior to Ashland University, he served as senior associate vice president for finance and administration for Kent State University. He has also served as chief financial officer for Otterbein University, Heidelberg University, and Lycoming College for a period of twenty-one years during which time he gained applicable experience in various financial and administrative areas. His education includes a PhD in Higher Education Administration from Ohio University, an MBA from York College, and a BS in accounting from King’s College. Additionally, he is a graduate of the University of Kentucky’s College of Business Management Institute and is a certified public accountant. Steve is currently serving as the president of the Ohio Association of College and University Business Officers.

Susan Miller-Cochran

Susan Miller-Cochran is Professor of English and Director of First-Year Writing at North Carolina State University. Her research focuses on technology, ESL writing, and writing program administration. Her work has appeared in College Composition and Communication, Composition Studies, Computers and Composition, and Teaching English in the Two-Year College, and she is also an editor of Rhetorically Rethinking Usability (Hampton Press, 2009) and Strategies for Teaching First-Year Composition (NCTE, 2002). Additionally, she is a co-author of The Wadsworth Guide to Research (Cengage, 2014) and Keys for Writers (Cengage, 2014). Before joining the faculty at NC State, she was a faculty member at Mesa Community College (AZ). Her recent work at NC State has focused on the development and analysis of sustainable, flexible learning spaces for writing instruction.

Dr. Dana Gierdowski

Dana C. Gierdowski is a Teaching Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition at North Carolina State University, where she teaches writing intensive courses and conducts learning space research. Prior to this position, she served as the Senior Program Coordinator for the Writing Excellence Initiative at Elon University. In her scholarly work she explores how innovative, technology-rich learning spaces impact student writers and instructors. Her research interests stem from her twelve-plus years of experience as an instructor of writing in higher education. She earned her PhD in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media from North Carolina State University. She has authored the book chapter “Studying Learning Spaces: A Review of Selected Empirical Studies” in the edited collection Cases on Higher Education Spaces (IGI Global, 2012) and is co-author with Susan Miller-Cochran of the article “Making Peace with the Rising Costs of Writing Technologies: Flexible Classroom Design as a Sustainable Solution” in the March 2013 issue of Computers and Composition.

Jason Bakker

Jason Bakker is a native Minnesotan and U of MN – Twin Cities alum who has been working in the area of youth marketing for more than a decade. He currently works with national college marketing agency Campus Media Group as Chief Operating Officer. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the agency and consults with advertising agencies and national brands on how best to market to college students.

Susan Schaurer

In her role as Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management and Director of Admission, Schaurer serves as Miami’s chief admission officer and divisional lead for all strategic communication and marketing efforts that advance and support Miami’s enrollment and student success goals. Schaurer began her tenure in Miami University’s Office of Admission in September 2006. Since that time, she has held various roles within the office and had oversight of multiple functions. As both Senior Associate Director and Director, she has had direct oversight of campus visits and events, a function that hosts more than 40,000 visitors annually. Over the last several years, Miami has taken great effort to seamlessly integrate its strategic recruitment, communication, and visit strategies. Under Schaurer’s leadership, it has also made tremendous strides in recent years to enhance the visit experience with new technologies and increased support from University partners. Margaret Dyer-Chamberlain

Margaret Dyer-Chamberlain joined the Stanford Center on Longevity (SCL) as senior research scholar and managing director in January 2009. Dyer-Chamberlain plays a key role in developing research and educational programs, securing funding for SCL programs, assisting in cultivation of SCL donors, and overseeing staff and consultants. Prior to SCL, she was senior director of Capital Planning and Space Management at Stanford since September 2001, with responsibility for leading the university’s capital plan process, developing space guidelines for the campus, allocating space, and designing and conducting space planning and utilization studies. With the University Budget Office, she led Stanford’s space charge program. Dyer-Chamberlain was formerly at Dartmouth College from 1989 to 2001, where she served as associate provost, overseeing facilities planning, community relations, the arts, and academic support functions of the college.

Steve Olson, Sr

As the Graduate School of Education’s senior associate dean, Steve directs many of the school’s operations, including finance, HR, IT, research administration, and facilities. Prior to this role, he served as Stanford’s associate director for budget and policy planning. It was in this role that he was asked to chair a task force that designed and implemented a university space charge. He later co-chaired a committee that evaluated the effectiveness of the space charge program and recommended strategies for space management going forward.
