Investing in faculty and staff development is no longer an optional perk. It’s now mission-critical if you want to engage and retain faculty and staff, find new solutions to old problems, and develop leaders who can solve tomorrow’s challenges. How Membership Can Meet Your Professional Development Needs

Support Your Strategic Initiatives

Many of our members use membership trainings and resources to support their strategic initiatives. Providing resources aligned with your team or institution’s strategy can help ensure that your team moves in the right direction together. Having your team aligned around particular trainings and resources can also enable a common language or understanding from which to build upon in addition to showcasing practical and actionable “how tos” that can be leveraged quickly.

Strategic Initiatives Membership Often Supports Include:

  • Inclusive Hiring
  • Development Women Leaders
  • Supporting Supervisors
  • Developing Department Chairs
  • Much more

Explore examples as to how institutions are using membership to further their strategic initiatives:

Dallas College

Dallas College integrated self-awareness and leadership development campus-wide through the utilization of the Five Paths to Leadership Self-Assessment. This assessment, included free with membership, helps individuals discover their leadership style and how it may change under stress. This tool measures your ease of access to five intuitive styles of leadership and gives teams and institutions a common language to use when reflecting on how individuals and teams “show up” at work. Dallas College also found value in better understanding the impact stress has on work styles for leaders at all levels. Having a shared understanding of these leadership styles and a common vocabulary helps foster collaboration and enables more open discussions on team dynamics.

University of Oregon

The University of Oregon wanted to provide campus-wide access to training and resources aligned with their institution’s mission and goals. The office of the provost worked with their Academic Impressions account manager to provide “Provosts Picks,” or recommended training topics from across four categories that speak to the University’s mission and goals. This is accomplished by posting the recommended trainings within Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Student Success, Faculty Success, and Leadership on the institution’s intranet that all faculty and staff can access, creating alignment across campus and everyone working toward a common goal.

Integrate Our Resources into Your Existing Training Programs

Enhance your existing training programs with accessible and up-to-date content, fostering continuous professional development for your academic and administrative teams. Many institutions use membership as a plug-and-play solution to seamlessly complement existing programming such as:

  • Existing or starting new leadership development programs
  • Annual employee development programs
  • Department chair orientation
  • Major gift officer onboarding
  • Plugging into existing team development workshops and discussions
  • Regular discission topics at staff and department meetings
  • Staff council programming
  • And more!

Membership offers convenient access to on-demand higher-ed specific training, resources, certificate programs, and ongoing live programming to supplement, and allows you to focus on delivering high-quality program content that is unique to your department and/or institution.

University of Florida

The University of Florida’s advancement shop saw an opportunity to integrate Academic Impressions membership trainings into the onboarding of their Major Gift Officers. The advancement department was able to leverage the existing foundational training to help get MGOs up and running quickly. The trainings, taught by vetted higher ed advancement expects from around the country, provide the MGOs a common language and solid footing from which they can build upon.

Johns Hopkins University

Johns Hopkins University incorporated trainings and resources from membership into their Provost’s Leadership Advancement & Development Academy which is designed to foster the academic and leadership growth of faculty. They did this by incorporating training opportunities through the faculty lifecycle through courses on topics such as: inclusive leadership, faculty career design, faculty success, and supervision.

University of Delaware

The University of Delaware created a year-long program for their new department chairs. The program covers specific information that the institution provides on processes, policy, and operations.
