Supporting and Retaining LGBTQ Leaders in Higher Education: A Training for All Leaders
Supporting and Retaining LGBTQ Leaders in Higher Education: A Training for All Leaders
Table of Contents
Create more equitable and inclusive environments to support the success of LGBTQ faculty and staff leaders.
Overview
Higher education operates in a heteronormative and cisnormative culture that, left unchecked, inevitably leads to the systemic marginalization and underrepresentation of LGBTQ faculty and staff in leadership positions. While individual support and leadership advancement are important, they do not address the systemic issues that perpetuate these inequities. Join us to discuss practical steps that you and your institution can take to create a more inclusive and equitable environment to support LGBTQ faculty and staff.
Who should attend?
Any leader interested in creating inclusive and equitable environments to better support and retain LGBTQ faculty and staff should attend.
This second session is intended for all leaders of all identities. Our first session, Creating Community While Navigating Heteronormative Culture: A Discussion for LGBTQ Leaders in Higher Education, is designed intentionally for leaders who identify as LGBTQ. Members can register for both events for free. Non-members: Use promo code lgbtq-leadership-bundle for $200 off when yuo register for both trainings.
Agenda
June 7, 2023
2:00 – 3:00 p.m. ET
- We’ll begin by situating our conversation within the context of intersectional social identities and how colleges and universities have historically operated within primarily heteronormative, patriarchal systems. We’ll also discuss what this means for those who don’t fall within these descriptions.
- Next, we will spend time exploring practical ways that you can take individual and systemic action to create more equitable campuses including inclusive hiring practices.
- Finally, we will close by sharing what one group of LGBTQ leaders wishes other leaders knew in order to create more supportive campus environments. Attendees will be asked to spend time reflecting and choosing one action item to commit to upon completion of the session.
