Star is an Academic Advisor/Social Media Coordinator for the Office of Advising and Academic Services, a Department of Undergraduate Studies at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). She also teaches the University Studies, Freshman Seminar and advises student clubs and organizations. Star graduated from CSUSB with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology, minor in Sociology. She is an educator, consultant, mentor, and life coach, helping people achieve their goals and fulfill their life purpose. Star co-owns a business with her husband that specializes in graphic design, promotions and productions. She has partnered with CSUSB advising centers as well as other campus entities to enhance their social media marketing efforts and increase student engagement. Star has presented and facilitated workshops both regionally and nationally on the following topics: Understanding Diversity, Student Success, Social Media: Communicating through pictures, and Supporting Underrepresented Asian/Pacific Islander Students. Prior to co-founding Mandl & Co. Jack was Associate Vice President for Corporate Development at Emory University and played key project executive roles with Mike Mandl in developing Drug Innovation Ventures at Emory, Emory Innovations, Emory Genetics Laboratory, Emory Sports Medicine Complex, and most recently Emory’s $50.9-million acquisition of 60 acres at Executive Park in Brookhaven, Georgia. Jack currently leads the asset management practice at Mandl & Co., LLC in corporate and real estate development and strategic project execution. Mandl & Co. partners with institutional executives to identify and inventory non-core assets, develop cogent plans, and provide execution support to unlock their economic value. Jack has held leadership and governance roles with Emory-affiliated public-private entities, including EGL Genetic Diagnostics, LLC; Emory Innovations, Inc.; EmTech, Inc. and T3 Labs, Inc. Under his leadership, each of these companies has engaged in non-traditional and non-academic enterprises with missions to support and enhance the broader goals of Emory and Georgia Tech (in the case of EmTech).
Dr. Elizabeth Zavala-Acevez provides strategic direction to all facets of the Career Center, is involved with several programming efforts that pertain to CSUF’s retention cluster and provides leadership and supervision to a staff comprised of 28 staff members. Dr. Zavala-Acevez recently became a Hearing Officer for the Dean of Students, and also serves as a Title IX Deputy Coordinator for the Division of Student Affairs. As a career services professional she offers over thirteen years of experience and has been actively involved in the Mountain Pacific Association of Colleges and Employers (MPACE) by currently serving as a Board Member and previously co-chaired the 2015 annual professional conference, an active member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), and most recently received acceptance in their competitive Leadership Advancement Program, and is an alumna of their Management Leadership Institute, and a member of National Career Development, Association and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). Matthew is a higher education advancement professional with more than 20 years of experience in experience design, fundraising, purpose-driven events and constituent engagement. Matthew currently serves as Assistant Vice President for University Advancement at Colorado State University, providing leadership to the Engagement team in creating strategy and tactical implementation of communications, donor relations and events for CSU’s community of donors, alumni and friends. Known for a love of novel ideas, Matthew led an innovative reorganization at CSU in 2010, consolidating responsibility for all alumni, donor and university events under the CSU Events umbrella. This organizational shift opened the door for a candid conversation about the power of purposeful events, leading to a more strategic approach to engagement and significantly contributing to more than five consecutive years of record-breaking fundraising results. Jennifer has more than 20 years of experience in special events and higher education. In 2014 she was named Wake Forest University’s first Executive Director of the Wake Washington Center. In this capacity she partners with campus departments (Advancement, Alumni Engagement, Office of Personal and Career Development, the Provost, Deans, and academic departments) to develop and enhance programs for the entire alumni, parent and friend constituency in the D.C. metro area, as well as between and among faculty and students on campus, building a bridge from campus to one of the University’s key cities. She also led the development of a study/internship program for undergraduates who wish to study and work in the nation’s capital, which opened in Fall 2017. Prior to her current role, she was vice president of university events, where she was responsible for the overall strategy, production and execution of the signature events for the university. Charles H. Johnson is the founder of Johnson Consulting and a nationally recognized real estate consultant with over 30 years of experience focused on mixed-use, conference centers and hotels, sports, and consulting fields. Diane Dahlmann is a member of the National Swimming Pool Foundation board of directors, serves on the editorial advisory board of School Construction News, is the editor of MizzouRec NATION magazine and is a featured Mondo Expert. Formerly she served on the Special Olympics – Missouri Board of Directors and editorial advisory board of Athletic Business magazine. As a graduate of Elmhurst College and Illinois State University, Diane has worked and studied under several great mentors. This led to 40-plus years as a teacher, mentor, director and consultant in higher education recreation. Over the years, she has visited over one hundred leisure facilities in the USA, Canada, Ireland, Great Britain, and Europe. She is known as a quality crusader for excellence, an award-winning innovator, speaker and leader who has greatly influenced the manner in which recreation opportunities and leisure experiences are delivered. Noted for her exceptional creativity and unique perspective, Dahlmann has created some the nation’s most successful programs and facilities (including the MU Student Rec Complex, which has been cited as the best in the nation.) Her program models, facility designs, student development applications and revenue-generating initiatives have been instrumental in shaping higher education and community recreation today.
Carrie has been at MizzouRec Services and Facilities at the University of Missouri since 2006. She holds a Bachelors in Parks, Recreation, & Tourism and a Masters in Architectural Studies. At MizzouRec, she started as an Aquatic Coordinator, overseeing aquatic programing and special events. She transitioned to the “dry side” of the facility in 2010, and began managing facility operations and leading award-winning teams and projects from bare concepts to successful implementations. As a critical member of the senior leadership team, Carrie’s direct oversight includes the 300,000 sq. ft. facility and outdoor sports complex. In addition to daily operations, she has led capital projects and renovations, including the transformation of the in-house spa. She also helped create social space for MizzouRec members and special areas in the facility for boxing and functional fitness workouts.
