Lotte Kaefer, an architect with over 18 years’ experience designs educational and cultural facilities. With a passion for the design of public buildings that teach and contribute to communities, she has cemented her experience through the complexities of high performance, sustainable buildings. She brings a sensitive approach to buildings fitting place with thoughtful interior design that can answer to the changing needs of users. Her diversity of experience ranges from libraries, to zoos and net zero energy buildings. She relishes anticipating challenges and navigating the appropriate solution with the design team and stakeholders alike. Lotte’s recent work includes the SFMOMA Expansion and the Packard Foundation Headquarters. She is currently working on the Library Renovation at University of Pacific in California. Lotte received her degree in Urban Design and Architecture from The Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark, including studies at both the University of Sydney and UC Berkeley.
As vice president of communications, Debbie Williams leads a team whose work provides fundraisers and the foundation with communication strategy; editorial and creative services; digital engagement; and video production as tools to meet fundraising goals. Williams was previously an integral part of Penn State’s communications efforts, where she served as editor of The Penn Stater magazine—a full-color, bi-monthly publication distributed to the largest alumni association in the United States. She was later tapped to direct campaign communications for the university’s Grand Destiny Campaign, a billion-dollar fundraising effort that surpassed its original $1 billion goal by more than $400 million.
Jonathan was appointed to oversee the University System of Georgia’s Public Private Partnership program in student housing in December of 2014. The P3 program includes 9,928 bed spaces across nine USG institutions. Jonathan has thirteen years of experience in higher education at various types of institutions, public and private. Jonathan’s areas of focus include public private partnership transition, operative agreements, mediation, performance standards, student accounts, housing information systems, and occupancy management. Jonathan attended Spring Hill College where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Appalachian State University where he obtained his master’s degree in Clinical Psychology.
Connie is The Citadel’s second-ranking official, and is a tenured professor in the Department of English. Immediately prior to assuming her position at The Citadel, Dr. Book served as Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and member of senior staff at Elon University in North Carolina. Dr. Book is a professor and researcher in the field of telecommunications. She has explored the pivotal role television plays in American society and public policy. She is the author of the book, DTV and Consumers, the first book dedicated to understanding how our nation’s transition to digital television impacted the general consumer. Dr. Book’s research has received five first-place awards from the National Association of Broadcasters educational group and several research grants. Her work included the first national assessment of municipal officials’ attitudes toward cable television oversight and the subsequent national assessment of municipal cable administrators’ attitudes toward cable television oversight. Her work has been published in legal and academic journals. Jim Boozer is a career Army general officer, serving at the strategic level with more than 30 years of experience in leading active organizations ranging in size from 30 to 25,000 personnel. His expertise is in the art of command during crisis. He brings a holistic blend of senior leader skills and technical experience for leaders at the highest executive level. MG Boozer is a graduate of The Citadel, holds a master’s degree from the venerable Army War College and has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Maryland.
Colonel Cardon Crawford is the Director of Government Affairs and the Crisis Action Team (CAT) lead for The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. As the CAT team lead he successfully managed the president and senior staff through four national level crises that held the potential to negatively affect the reputation and brand of the college. In addition he is the co-founder of Crisis Action Training and Intervention (CAT/i) LLC. CAT/i specializes in preparing institutions to make key strategic and operational decisions during an emergent crisis. Prior to assuming his current duties at The Citadel, he spent 24 years on active duty with the United States Army. Colonel Crawford deployed to both Desert Shield / Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom where he served as the Combined and Joint Director of Operations for the Afghanistan Theater of Operations. Colonel Crawford is a graduate of the Army’s Command and General Staff College and holds a master’s degree in Administration from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the National War College.
Kim Wright has more than fifteen years of experience directing and performing market analysis, financial analysis, and strategic planning for clients in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. Her more recent engagements have entailed student housing master plans and feasibility analyses for on- and off-campus housing, strategic planning for institutions that are considering first-time on-campus housing or an expansion of existing housing, institutions in housing markets with high barriers to entry, and public-private partnership advisory services. An area of focus for Ms. Wright is community colleges where she has assisted a significant number of clients, performed extensive research, and presented at industry events and conferences. She directs Scion’s west coast office. She has an extensive national and international background in general real estate, including multifamily and mixed-use housing, transit-oriented development, and retail. This includes creating innovative development and revitalization strategies for real estate investors, developers, public agencies, universities, business improvement districts, and non-profit organizations Kim is a member of the Association of College and University Housing Officers International (ACUHO-I), Community College Business Officers (CCBO), and the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). Deedie Dowdle joined Miami University in January, 2012 as associate vice president for university communications and marketing (UCM) to lead the team in oversight of Miami’s branding, public information, website, crisis communications, publications, creative services, digital media, internal communications, external relations, Miamian magazine, videography, and photography. To build a stronger, more cohesive Miami brand, the UCM team has made significant strides in recent years. The team’s efforts have earned extensive recognition among higher education peers, including a national gold medal for best recruitment video and a regional gold for Best Alumni Magazine, several golds for CASE V/VI and other higher education national organizations. Prior to Miami, Dowdle served as executive director of communications and marketing at Auburn University, with responsibilities similar to those in her role at Miami in addition to overseeing special events and academic division communicators. Previously, she implemented Kennesaw State University’s first branding effort as its director of marketing, and served as director of marketing and public relations in the theme park industry, where she spearheaded the response to several crises, including one that led to worldwide industry change. Earlier, she served in director and account executive roles for Atlanta- and Charlotte-based agencies.
Melissa is the Executive Director of The Garage, the hub for student entrepreneurship and innovation at Northwestern. Melissa is an exGoogler, Startup veteran, and entrepreneur with a decade of experience at consumer technologies companies in Silicon Valley. She has worked in-house at Google, YouTube, Polyvore (acquired by Yahoo) and Luvocracy (acquired by WalMart Labs). Most recently, she built her own influencer marketing agency called Storylark. Melissa holds a B.A. in computer science from Dartmouth College.
