Kelly Anne Ward

Kelly was named chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Counseling Psychology in 2011, after serving as interim chair for a year. She has taught administration of higher education, critical issues in higher education and student affairs, student services, seminar in higher education, and college teaching. She previously taught at Oklahoma State University and worked as an administrator and faculty member at the University of Montana. Kelly is interested in faculty issues including integration of teaching, research, and service; work and family concerns for faculty; faculty career development; and faculty diversity in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). She is also interested in the service role of higher education including faculty outreach and engagement.

Paul Reeder

As a key figure in the Office of Research and Industry Liaison Office (ILO), Paul works closely with his ILO colleagues, Office of Research leaders, college deans, and internal partners involved in business collaboration to assemble, expand, and improve accessibility of core university capability in support of external engagement. Paul’s mission is to partner with these key university stakeholders to establish a unified, overarching industrial collaboration strategy that assures that engagements are of optimal relevancy for the industrial partner concurrent with maximizing value creation for OSU, in large part by considering the entire spectrum of value generating outcomes for both parties. In addition, Paul is responsible for codifying processes, procedures, templates, and training modules for partner vetting, relationship cultivation, and opportunity framing; and establishing an associated knowledge repository of external collaboration best practices. Before joining Ohio State in 2012, Paul founded Design Axis, a consulting firm specializing in product development and strategic innovation. Dr. Naomi Nishi

Dr. Naomi W. Nishi is a scholar-practitioner with over 15 years in higher education. Her research focuses on issues of racial equity and social justice in adult education. She has produced over 20 publications and presented over 30 papers at national conferences. Naomi serves as a consultant and adult educator/facilitator, focusing on racial justice in higher education as well as to a variety of companies and nonprofits in the Denver area. Naomi holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Colorado Denver and an MA in Intercultural Communication from the University of Denver. She currently serves as the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. Prior to this, Naomi worked in research development and as a Lecturer at the University of Colorado Denver and the Anschutz Medical Campus, also serving as a DEI faculty leader at the CU System level. Naomi is a Motherscholar who, along with her partner, has two rambunctious kids who are six and nine.

Patty Burns

Patty Burns is the chief strategist and information architect of the award-winning Kenyon College website. The director of three comprehensive web redesigns, she has extensive practical experience in the planning and execution of this complex process in the small college environment. To lead a successful redesign, she believes one must understand the institution’s needs and available resources, determine how a strategic partner’s strengths and expertise will complement in-house resources, and develop a clear, long-term plan for sustaining the website post-launch. As Kenyon’s director of new media since 2001, Patty develops web policies and procedures and enforces web style and branding guidelines. She serves as principal contact to web vendors and service providers and administers Kenyon’s web content management system.

Marcel J. Dumestre, Ed.D.

Marcel J. Dumestre, Ed.D. is a retired academic administrator who writes about higher education strategy and philosophy of education. He held positions for nearly 30 years as a tenured professor, academic dean, and academic vice president at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, Regis University, and Loyola University New Orleans. Marcel is recognized as an innovator in distance education, administrative strategy, and academic leadership development. His doctor of education degree is from Vanderbilt University. Marcel’s latest book is Financial Sustainability in US Higher Education: Transformational Strategy in Troubled Times (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016).

Robin Smail

Robin Smail has focused on the connections between learning, community and user-centric design throughout her career. As the user experience designer in Penn State’s Teaching & Learning with Technology group, she helps to imagine and build things that make the Penn State community more open and connected. In her sixteen years at Penn State, Robin has been involved in a number of special projects, including the university’s site redesign in 2012. Robin’s recent studio projects include developing the user experience of the Penn State Digital Badging Platform, and guiding the general education task force in their efforts to create a transparent, open environment in the use of authentic discussion and collaboration while rethinking Penn State’s General Education requirements. Robin is an award-winning speaker in the higher education community, and travels throughout North America to speak and teach on the user experience, universal design, and emerging trends and their integration into the teaching and learning process. Heath Boice-Pardee

Dr. Heath Boice-Pardee worked as an administrator in higher education for 30 years in a variety of roles including Assistant Dean at Rutgers University, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Interim Senior Vice President for Student Affairs at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Additionally, he teaches in the School for Individualized Studies at RIT and developed a higher education administration Master’s concentration in service excellence and the student experience. Given his passion for the topic, he joined Academic Impressions as their first Head of Practice for Service Excellence in higher education in 2023. Heath is an international expert on service excellence in higher education and has presented on the topic at universities including NYU, Prairie View A&M University, University of Alberta and Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology. He has worked with hundreds of professionals in higher education on enhancing customer service, overcoming roadblocks, and fulfilling service visions. Carrie Herrig

In the 14 years, Carrie has spent in higher education her roles and responsibilities have always been centered on providing exceptional service. In her role as learning & development coordinator she orchestrates 40-60 training opportunities per quarter for staff at the University of North Dakota (UND). Herrig herself is a Gallup trained Strengths Coach, who believes when teams truly understand their individual strengths and how to leverage the strengths of their colleagues, they can improve performance and service. Prior to this position, she was the Coordinator of Staff Development at the UND Student Wellness Center where her primary focus was enhancing the culture and implementing a meaningful customer service program. In her seven years at UND, she has worked with a variety of departments to improve their customer experience and/or launch a customer service program. Herrig began her career in higher education at Concordia College (Moorhead, MN) where she spent seven years, coordinating events and conferences for 10-5000 individuals. She also has two years of direct sales experience from work in the Hospitality Industry & and the local Chamber of Commerce.

Shawn T. Gordon, MA, MBA cert.

Shawn believes in giving back and in being of service to others. In her current role, she has the opportunity to do both for an institution she loves. Shawn has a B.A. and a M.A. from Kent State University, where she also participated in a certificate program in the College of Business at Kent State (M.B.A. certificate program) as well as a state and federal licensure program at The Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University (The Core of Knowledge in Nursing Home Administration). Shawn Gordon has worked in healthcare administration for most of her career. Sangita Pawar

Dr. Pawar has extensive operational and leadership experience. She has a successful track record of driving organizational and cultural transformation in historically conservative educational and clinical settings. She believes in driving change by utilizing systematic problem-solving skills while deeply engaging diverse stakeholders to understand their interests and gain buy in and commitment. Dr. Pawar has a PhD in Molecular Cellular Biology/Cancer Biology, a Masters in Microbiology, and a Masters in Business Administration with expertise in basic research, administration, and management. Prior to her current position, she directed the UA College of Medicine Research Office for six years where she developed the basic and clinical research infrastructure.
