Steve has 25 years of experience in supporting clients to meet strategic business goals through learning and development solutions. Currently, Steve is a senior lecturer in the International Business & Management department at Dickinson College, with academic interests including Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior, and Leadership. In addition, Steve is a member of the leadership team at Dering Consulting Group based in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. Steve’s responsibilities include supporting client needs through strategy, organizational development, and training and coaching solutions and services. He is a certified professional coach with 800 hours of experience coaching leaders across all industries.
Steve previously served as the Associate Vice President of Human Resources at Dickinson College, where he focused on creating stronger engagement among faculty and staff while developing talent. Before coming to Dickinson, Steve worked for ten years as a learning and development consultant at Arthur Andersen and Smart & Associates, with clients ranging from Fortune 500 to state and local non-profit organizations.
Steve earned his doctoral degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Educational Leadership in Higher Education. He completed his coach certification training through the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) and currently holds the Professional Coaching Certification (PCC) credential through the International Coaching Federation (ICF). In addition, he earned the Senior Professional of Human Resource (SPHR) certification through the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
Steve is a certified facilitator through the Center for Creative Leadership and is certified to teach personal effectiveness programs including DiSC, Crucial Conversations, Crucial Accountability, Change Anything, and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. He has written articles for publications including Inside Higher Education and The Higher Education Workplace, and he has served as an author and peer evaluator for SHRM on several case studies used in national student competitions at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
