Dr. Gore is responsible for negotiating and coordinated efforts to leverage institutional data to inform strategic planning, institutional operations, student success, and growth. In his faculty role, he serves as the Director of graduate programs in School and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Dr. Gore’s professional interests focus on high school and college student transition and academic and career success. He is currently writing a student success textbook, Connections: Empowerment for College and Career Success. He is interested in how institutions use data to align resources and services to meet the particular needs (or capitalize on the strengths) of their students. Dr. Gore has consulted with over 3 dozen high school districts and colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Gore earned his Ph.D. in 1996 from Loyola University in Chicago IL in the field of Counseling Psychology. Meredith Chapman is a seasoned communications strategist with nearly ten years of experience spanning various industries from government to education. For the last four years, Chapman has worked at the University of Delaware, where she revolutionized social media on campus and positioned UD as a national thought leader. She has been nationally recognized for her social media accomplishments and was named a top social media professional for 2011 by PR News. Currently working as director of digital communications at UD, Meredith oversees the strategic development of the university’s digital assets, including social media, websites and mobile development as well as digital engagement through content and distribution. She also serves as program director and a faculty member for the newly created Social Media Marketing Strategy Certificate at the University of Delaware.
Myrna has spent more than 15 years in the nonprofit world – 13 of them in higher education fundraising. She arrived at Brown in 2007 for the institution’s $1.6 billion “Boldly Brown” campaign and currently oversees her shop’s fundraising work in Chicago, Texas, and New York City’s principal gift pool. With comprehensive experience in campaign fundraising, prospect management, and volunteer management, she thrives within Brown’s unique “Art and Science” development officer metrics solution. Myrna previously served in campaign leadership positions with the University of Rhode Island and Stetson University.
Danielle specializes in health science librarianship. She has published several articles related to her work in Nurse Educator, Journal of Transcultural Nursing, Medical Reference Services Quarterly, and Issues in Science & Technology Librarianship. She teaches a Quality Matters-certified health information course and also conducts information literacy instruction across the curriculum. About a year ago, she began to implement hands-on instruction using iPads and to date has taught dozens of information literacy sessions in a wide variety of subject areas.
In Dr. Darla Deardorff’s current position, she is a research scholar in education and founder of ICC Global, a global network on intercultural competence research. In addition, she is an adjunct professor at North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, is a visiting faculty at Leeds Metropolitan University, United Kingdom, and is on faculty of the prestigious Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication in Portland, Oregon. With nearly twenty years of experience in the international education field, she has published widely on topics in international education; she was editor of The SAGE Handbook of Intercultural Competence (Sage, 2009), as well as several other books. She serves as a consultant and trainer for universities, corporations, and non-profit organizations. Her research interests include intercultural competence, outcomes assessment, internationalization, and teacher education.
Michael has 25 years of experience in marketing management, communications planning, product management, and business strategy development in several industry sectors including advertising, publishing, educational assessment, financial services, higher education, and nonprofit. He has taught at four universities over the past 17 years and is an adjunct faculty member at Texas A&M University – San Antonio teaching traditional classroom and Internet-classroom hybrid courses in marketing, advertising, internet marketing, and public relations. His past role as director of marketing at the University of Texas at San Antonio gives him practical experience in developing branding, communication, and engagement strategies in a university setting. He led the team that created and executed the first comprehensive branding strategy for UTSA that is still in use for recruitment of students, activation of the alumni network, and cultivation of community support. In his current role at Goodwill of San Antonio, Michael has the responsibility for developing and implementing integrated marketing communication strategy in support of donations, retail, agency services, and community engagement. This includes the Good Careers Academy, an educational component working in collaboration with the Alamo Community College District that provides career certification programs in business services, medical front office, pharmacy, and trade careers.
Tracy coordinates Advanced English for Academic Purposes, a transition course for second-language international students entering the university. She also teaches language courses in short-term programs for Fulbright students and junior faculty and to students entering graduate and undergraduate degree programs or working on thesis projects for their degree programs. In addition, Tracy is a consultant to Cherokee Nation’s Language Revitalization Program and is a mentor for the International Scholar program. She was a Fulbright Research Scholar and Lecturer in Nepal and a US Peace Corps recruiter and volunteer, and she received a grant from the National Science Foundation for documenting endangered language for her research on the Cherokee language. She has published articles, conducted workshops, and presented at national conferences on topics related to language instruction.
Kumarie leads the international student advising team and ensures the delivery of programs and services to international students. She advises students on immigration, cultural adjustment and academic issues and manages communications to students while building staff effectiveness and enhancing advising services. Kumarie has facilitated several workshops for students and staff on such topics as cultural adjustment, intercultural communication competencies, and diversity training. Previously, she was an intercultural education trainer at Catholic Social Services, facilitating training on various topics related to building staff diversity and intercultural capacities. Kumarie holds certificates in intercultural communication education from the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication in Portland, OR. She arrived in Alberta about twenty-five years ago as a foreign student from Trinidad and Tobago and brings to her work a genuine understanding of the challenges facing international students.
Wendy is responsible, with the advisement of the major program committee, for the curriculum of the management program at UW-Stout, and is charged with aiding students in meeting all requirements of the program. She is also a lecturer in the operations and management department on topics including online and interactive television delivery of courses. Wendy is president of Stout Community Adult Career and Technical Educators and serves on the the UW-Stout Senate of the Academic Staff, College of Management Council, and Faculty Senate Finance Committee. Wendy also assists with strategic planning for customized instruction programs and prior learning assessments and has been a trainer for prior learning assessment at UW Extension and UW Colleges. She has published on adult women learners and technical college graduates earning four-year degrees. She has also spoken at regional, national, and international conferences on such topics as online advisement, distance education student satisfaction, and adult student retention.
Under Jan’s direction, ALVS, an office within the Division of Student Affairs at Colorado State, has expanded to offer new scholarships and an array of services to support adult and veteran students, including a free, supervised activities drop-in service for children while parents study in the campus library; a partnership with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment to place a veterans counselor on campus to help student veterans with career planning, preparation, and placement; and the Rocky Mountain Coalition for veteran support services, a regional gathering to share and learn about effective practices for supporting student veterans. Under Jan’s leadership, Adult Learner and Veteran Services (ALVS) received national recognition for its Veteran Support Program (National Association for Student Personnel Administrators Excellence Award/Bronze level). ALVS founded SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society, the premier honor society for veterans in the country. SALUTE now boasts 35 chapters and more than 2,000 individual members. CSU hosts the national headquarters. Jan has served on the National Advisory Editorial Board for Recruiting & Retaining Adult Learners (a Wiley publication), as the Region IV-West co-chair of the Veterans Knowledge Community, and on the National Advisory Committee for Veterans for the National Association for Student Personnel Administration.
